READING GROUPS

CLLC offers six weekly reading groups for students from 3rd through 8th grade. The participants in the reading groups read books selected by CLLC staff and the Charlestown Branch Children’s Librarian. Reading out loud during the group and independently between sessions, students, as well as parents, see a drastic improvement in reading levels and overall confidence in the classroom. Students who are not ready to participate with the groups meet before or after with the reading group volunteers to ensure the material is understood and presented in a non-threatening manner. This allows every student to participate without fear of being left behind because of the pace or reading level of a book.  Recently, for the first time, reading groups were able to keep their books following the conclusion of the program. This allows each family to grow their at-home library and promote reading to friends and younger siblings.

Reading Groups meet weekly for one hour in the Hugh Young Reading Room at the Learning Center.  Please contact the Learning Center to add your student to the roster.
